For the second straight game, Hesperia will face off against Sultana. The Scorpions will welcome the Sultans at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hesperia has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Sultana will arrive with 14 straight victories.
Hesperia lost 9-2 to Sultana on Tuesday.
For Sultana's part, Eric Ruiz and LJ Borrego made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ruiz tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Borrego pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Ruiz posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Ruiz went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Borrego went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Borrego is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gage Reimers, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Reyes, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Sultana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Sultana pushed their record up to 18-2-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Hesperia, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hesperia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Sultana struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
