After a string of three wins, the Eagle Rock Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a hard 46-29 fall against Verdugo Hills. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Eagle Rock came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while Verdugo Hills is ranked 635th).
Leading Verdugo Hills to victory were Amiyya Castanos and Rayleen Castanos. Castanos scored 22 points along with three steals and three blocks, while Castanos almost dropped a triple-double on 16 points, nine rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Castanos has scored at least 25% of Verdugo Hills' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Opper, who scored six points.
Eagle Rock's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-3. As for Verdugo Hills, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
