Unity Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Benjamin Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Aaron Kennett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Southern Christian on Friday and fell 10-9. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.
Gage Donaldson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, J.R. Monroe was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Holden Reese was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Having lost for the first time this season, Cornerstone Christian fell to 6-1. As for Unity Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Unity Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Cornerstone Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
