Wiregrass Ranch has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Lake Minneola Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, Wiregrass Ranch rose to the challenge on Friday. They took down Springstead 45-27.
Wiregrass Ranch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaiah Riggins, who picked up 250 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Riggins' longest reception was for an incredible 85 yards. Luke Knight also helped out by tossing the rock for 253 yards.
Meanwhile, Lake Minneola waltzed into Friday's matchup with six straight wins but they left with seven. They strolled past Haines City with points to spare, taking the game 35-16.
Lake Minneola's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Kania led the charge by picking up 152 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while also punching in a rushing scores. Jackson Hughes was another key contributor, throwing for 243 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt.
Wiregrass Ranch's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.8 points per game. As for Lake Minneola, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
