The Roosevelt Rough Riders can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They breezed by Madera South on the road to the tune of 70-36. Given Roosevelt's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while Madera South is ranked 761st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Roosevelt was led to victory by Nyleigh Gregory and Taylor Sutherland. Gregory scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Sutherland dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gregory pulled down eight or more rebounds. Tatiana Ballinger was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 16 rebounds.
Several Stallions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was MAYRILYN HERNANDEZ, who scored seven points. HERNANDEZ continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of MAYRILIN VASQUEZ, who scored eight points.
Roosevelt pushed their record up to 9-7 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Madera South, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will take on Hoover at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Madera South, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome McLane at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th.
