The Village Christian Crusaders had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against Bonita by a score of 49-42. Given Village Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Bonita is ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Village Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Moriah Mosley led the charge by scoring 14 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mosley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alanna Neale, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Bonita's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lexi Mercado, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Serenity Henderson, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Village Christian's victory bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Bonita, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Village Christian will take on Maranatha at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maranatha has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Bonita, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Alta Loma at 5:30 p.m. Alta Loma is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
