This season hasn't been kind to the Tonopah Valley Phoenix, who are still winless after their fourth contest. They were beaten by Highland Prep 90-24 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Tonopah Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Highland Prep is ranked 134th).
Leading Highland Prep to victory were Kohen Hill and Presley Ibeh. Hill scored 22 points along with eight steals and five assists, while Ibeh dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Ibeh set a new season high mark in assists with six. Another player making a difference was Tarrell Green, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Tonopah Valley's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-4. As for Highland Prep, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Tonopah Valley is on the road again on Saturday and play against Phoenix Country Day at 2:30 p.m. on December 16th. Phoenix Country Day will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Highland Prep will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on John Paul II at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th.
