Marshall is 8-2 against South El Monte since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Marshall Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the South El Monte Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Marshall will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
Marshall stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Rosemead at home to the tune of 53-22. Given Marshall's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 369th, while Rosemead is ranked 799th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marshall had a senior duo take command as Jolynn Abilar scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals and Destiny Ihiaso scored 11 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Abilar scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlan Sakuma, who scored two points along with four steals.
South El Monte suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 58-15 loss at the hands of Gabrielino.
Marshall has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for South El Monte, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Marshall against South El Monte in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 59-22 victory. Does Marshall have another victory up their sleeve, or will South El Monte turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
