Two dominant guards in Tatyana Aubry and Sarah Cosio are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Having just played yesterday, the Leuzinger Olympians will jump right back in to play the St. Bonaventure Seraphs at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
On Friday, Leuzinger blew past Santa Monica, posting a 61-32 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Olympians' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Vikings are ranked 531st).
Leuzinger's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sovereign Woods led the charge by putting up 13 points. Darion Autrey was another key player, scoring eight points and 16 boards.
Meanwhile, St. Bonaventure had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.2 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They blew past the Toads, posting an 85-13 victory. The Seraphs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 37 points or more this season.
Leuzinger better focus on containing Alynah Leon and Sophia Fernandez as the pair were huge in St. Bonaventure's win. Leon dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds, while Fernandez went 12-for-14 on her way to 26 points and seven boards. Leon's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Reneau, who posted ten points.
St. Bonaventure smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.9 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.6.
St. Bonaventure's win bumped their record up to 15-2. As for Leuzinger, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Leuzinger has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Bonaventure struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
