It was a good run, but the Marian Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 58-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Beaumont United. While losing is never fun, Marian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while Beaumont United is ranked 26th).
Despite the defeat, Marian saw an underclassman step up: Lamonte Butler scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds. The match was Butler's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Whitefield, who scored 6 points along with 5 steals.
Marian's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Beaumont United, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Beaumont United will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Silsbee at 7:00 p.m. on December 11th. Silsbee has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 937 points over their last 13 matchups.
