Roosevelt is 0-4 against Severance since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Roosevelt Roughriders will head out on the road to square off against the Severance Silver Knights at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Roosevelt's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They put the hurt on Fort Morgan with a sharp 71-46 win. That 25 points margin sets a new team best for Roosevelt this season.
Roosevelt's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Nolan Peterson, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and four steals, and Seppe Salvatore, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Salvatore has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Palma, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Severance put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Northridge 72-46. Given Severance's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Northridge is ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Severance got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Blake Varney out in front who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Brady Varney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Roosevelt's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10. As for Severance, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Thursday's game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Salvatore and Varney. Salvatore has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds. For his part, Varney has averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 blocks, and 9.8 rebounds.
Roosevelt came up short against Severance in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 63-57. Can Roosevelt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
