Archbishop Riordan is 1-9 against Junipero Serra since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Crusaders are taking a road trip to square off against the Padres at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Archbishop Riordan will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Carlmont, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Crusaders walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Scots on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Crusaders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Archbishop Riordan got a great performance from Colton Parenti as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Parenti also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Crusaders are undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-17-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Chase Oliver was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Archbishop Riordan's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 4-0-1 (and 5-17 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Zach Kai Mccarthur, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Junipero Serra entered their tilt with Archbishop Riordan on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Crusaders get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory.
Riley Lim looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tyler Harrison was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Ian Josephson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Junipero Serra was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .382 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Junipero Serra pushed their record up to 22-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop Riordan, their win bumped their record up to 9-17-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Archbishop Riordan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Junipero Serra struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Archbishop Riordan might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Junipero Serra in their previous matchup on Friday. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
