St. Charles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand Chesapeake a 41-0 shutout. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for St. Charles considering their seven-point performance the contest before.
St. Charles found their leader in sophomore Demarion Evans, who rushed for 68 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries.
St. Charles was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 311 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Special teams played a big role in the game for St. Charles, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Christopher Quick, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely South River's strategy against Bennett on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Seahawks blew the Clippers out of the water with a 69-0 final score. The Seahawks' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
St. Charles better keep an eye on Korey Warren. He was instrumental in South River's win, rushing for 162 yards and four TDs on only seven carries. Those 162 rushing yards gave Warren a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Benjamin Raines, who threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes.
South River didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jaden McDuffie, Evan Paximadas, and Xander Dowell picked up one apiece. McDuffie has been hot recently, having also posted two or more receiving touchdowns the last three times he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
St. Charles' victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for South River, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. St. Charles has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.7 rushing yards per game.
