San Marcos and Carlsbad are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Knights will host the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
San Marcos took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past Rancho Bernardo 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

04/18/25 vs Poway | 6 |
Isaac Esquer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Colton Walker and Ethan Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Walker got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, while Martinez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Martinez has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Titans 8-6. That's two games straight that the Lancers have won by exactly two runs.
Jett Kenady was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kenady was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Stigers, who went 1-for-4 with five stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Max Adams, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
San Marcos is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Carlsbad, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. San Marcos has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Carlsbad struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
