Klein hasn't had much luck against Tomball recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bearkats will square off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Klein has given up an average of 27.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Klein was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 36-30 to Klein Collins. The game marked the Bearkats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Klein's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Edward Kelly Jr, who rushed for 109 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries, and Grant Stratta, who rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. Stratta's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tomball). They really took it to Magnolia West for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-7 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Mustangs are ranked 346th) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tomball's win came from a few key players Klein will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaxyn Faldyn, who threw for 221 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Ian Thomas helped Faldyn out on the ground, rushing for 100 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Tomball proved: they limited Magnolia West to a paltry 2.7 yards per carry. While six picked up at least five total tackles, Chance Green stood above the rest. He forced one fumble and made five total tackles (2.0 for loss). Tomball didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged nine.
Tomball's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Having lost for the first time this season, Klein fell to 4-1. As for Tomball, their record now sits at 3-1.
Klein came up short against Tomball when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 48-43. Can the Bearkats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
