After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pioneer, the Mira Loma Matadors were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 38-27 victory over Western Sierra Collegiate Academy. This was payback for Mira Loma, who suffered a 51-34 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Mira Loma's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Allison Canafe, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. Canafe hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Desiree Synhorst, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Mira Loma's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, they dropped their record down to 12-9 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Mira Loma will play host again and welcome Mesa Verde, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sacramento Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Sacramento Country Day comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
