Victoria is 2-7 against St. John since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Victoria Knights will head out on the road to face off against the St. John Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Victoria is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Victoria was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to Macksville. Victoria has not had much luck with Macksville recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Seth Schwien, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quincy Pickering, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 69 points the game before, St. John were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They were dealt a 49-12 defeat at the hands of Central Plains. While losing is never fun, St. John can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Central Plains is ranked 109th).
Victoria's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-9. As for St. John, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Victoria beat St. John 51-39 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Victoria since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
