Dougherty had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 5-11 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 23-19 victory over the Turner County Titans. The Trojans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Jalexi Thomas was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off only two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Dougherty got a massive performance out of Jaida Nelson, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave Nelson a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Sasha Hill, who went 4-for-5 with seven stolen bases and four runs.
Dougherty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .673. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Turner County only posted an OBP of .488.
As for Turner County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13. Even if they couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
On Turner County's side, Diamond Wilson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aalunah Edwards, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dougherty will host Deerfield-Windsor at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Turner County, they will welcome Echols County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
