After flying high against the Corning Cardinals last Wednesday, the Orland Trojans came back down to earth. Orland fell 58-51 to the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Orland was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Orland still got an impressive performance from Emily Karle, who scored 13 points along with five assists and four steals. Karle hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Dioselin Nunez, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Orland were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Brook Marr was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 17 rebounds for Gridley. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Marr has scored at least a third of Gridley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubree Weber, who scored ten points.
Orland's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-15. As for Gridley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-11.
Orland will play host again and welcome the Thunderbirds, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Las Plumas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Thursday. As for Gridley, they will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
