The Lincoln Fighting Zebras will take on the Woodland Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Woodland will be up against a hot Lincoln team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. The Fighting Zebras were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over South Tahoe on Monday. The Fighting Zebras' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Anthony Jackson looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Lincoln got a massive performance out of Landyn Plaut, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Plaut has posted over his last 12 games. Brock Galer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Lincoln kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Woodland had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They blew past the Cougars 12-2. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by exactly ten runs.
Riley Salvemini and Cohen Dwyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Salvemini tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Dwyer pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Salvemini went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Dwyer scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Dylan Ramirez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Joseph Cadotte, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.
Lincoln pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Woodland, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Woodland struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
