Baseball Recap: King/Drew Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

King/Drew entered their tilt with Locke on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Saints a 13-0 shutout. The Golden Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Saints, too.

Arturo Rivas and Hades Carranza made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Rivas tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Carranza kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Rivas went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Carranza went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Carranza is becoming a predictor of King/Drew's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-14 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, King/Drew got a massive performance out of Nick Zuniga, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Kylan Foster was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

King/Drew kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.6.

King/Drew's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Locke, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

King/Drew has already played their next contest, an 11-7 win against Harbor Teacher on the 20th. As for Locke, they will face off against Port of Los Angeles at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Polar Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Saints' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
