The Poway Titans won the last time they faced the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders, and things went their way on Thursday too. Poway blew past Mater Dei Catholic 49-29. Given Poway's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Mater Dei Catholic is ranked 538th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Poway got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mya McGowan out in front who scored 13 points. Katelyn Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Promise Martin, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Martin is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Awen Carrillo, who scored 6 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Poway now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they have fallen quite a ways from their 21-10 record last season and are now at 1-3.
Poway will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Dobson at 8:00 p.m. on December 1st. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they will face off against Marlborough at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Marlborough will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
