Basketball Game Preview: Modoc Braves vs. Weed Cougars

Modoc has won seven straight games at home, while Weed has won seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Modoc Braves will host the Weed Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Modoc is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.

Modoc will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Trinity, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Modoc came out on top against Trinity by a score of 47-35 on Saturday.

Modoc's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Katie Erquiaga led the charge by putting up 11 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Erquiaga is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Sandage, who posted nine points and three steals.

Modoc smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Weed earned a 66-55 win over Fall River on Friday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 496th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Modoc is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.1 points per game. As for Weed, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3.

Modoc came up short against Weed when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 54-45. Can Modoc avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
