Softball Recap: Firelands Has No Trouble Against Clearview

Firelands won the last time they faced Clearview and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Falcons blew past the Clippers 19-2. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won six contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Jeanette Crawford made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Sarah Blankenship was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Paige Coggins was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base.

Firelands always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Firelands is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Clearview, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-16.

Looking ahead, Firelands will venture away from home to challenge North Ridgeville at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rangers have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Clearview, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Open Door Christian at 5:00 p.m.
