Basketball Recap: Centennial Takes a Loss

Centennial lost against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy back in November of 2017 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Centennial Apaches took a 51-32 bruising from the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Apaches can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 823rd, while the Warriors are ranked 404th).

When it comes to explaining why Centennial lost, don't look at Erin Jackson. Despite the final result, she dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 19 rebounds, and 11 blocks. Jackson is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Patience Taylor was another key player, putting up five points and nine rebounds.

Centennial is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Centennial will welcome Firebaugh at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Centennial is facing Firebaugh at the right time seeing as Firebaugh is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy and Oceanside will round out the year against one another at at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
