Arcata and St. Bernard are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Arcata Tigers will take on the St. Bernard's Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Arcata didn't have too much breathing room in their game against McKinleyville, but they still walked away with a 49-43 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Arcata.
Arcata's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mae Wolford, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Nora Talty, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, St. Bernard's stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They breezed by Trinity on the road to the tune of 52-15. The win was familiar territory for St. Bernard's who now have three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Bernard's to victory, but perhaps none more so than Laila Florvilus, who scored 14 points. Madelyn Shanahan was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Arcata is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for St. Bernard's, their victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-3.
Arcata came up short against St. Bernard's in their previous matchup back in January, falling 49-41. Can Arcata avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
