The Azusa Aztecs will be playing at home against the Baldwin Park Braves at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Azusa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
Azusa's and Blair's contest was close at halftime, but Azusa turned on the heat in the second half with 33 points. Azusa blew past Blair 48-24. Azusa might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three contests by 24 points or more this season.
Ruby Untoria continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Azusa's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilliana Maldonado, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Baldwin Park's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. Their tough 36-14 defeat to South El Monte might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Baldwin Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 660th, while South El Monte is ranked 294th).
Azusa has yet to lose a game on the road this season, leaving them with a 5-1 record. As for Baldwin Park, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Things could have been worse for Azusa, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 44-28 loss to Baldwin Park in their previous meeting back in November of 2019.
