Baseball Recap: Foresthill Has No Trouble Against Encina

The matchup between Foresthill and Encina on Wednesday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Wildfires blew past the Bulldogs 25-1. The win continues a trend for the Wildfires in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.

Cooper Stanowicz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Foresthill's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Abe Robenolt was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Foresthill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Hunter Byrum was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Foresthill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Foresthill pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Encina, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Foresthill didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 18-16 victory against Western Sierra Collegiate Academy on the 24th. As for Encina, they have also already played their next contest, a 16-2 loss against Valley Christian on the 29th.
