If the Hobgood Charter Raiders were feeling good off their 48-4 takedown of the Ocracoke Dolphins last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Hobgood Charter took a 50-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Hobgood Charter has not had much luck with the Hurricanes recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Hobgood Charter lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Janiya Blanding, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Blanding continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Rae Cannon, who scored nine points.
Cape Hatteras got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kylie Philips out in front who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby O'Neal, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Hobgood Charter has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Cape Hatteras, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.
Hobgood Charter will head out on the road to face off against the Lakers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cape Hatteras, they will be playing at home against the Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
