Softball Recap: Southwest Has No Trouble Against Mccollum

Southwest hadn't beaten McCollum on the road since April 16, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Southwest Dragons put the hurt on the McCollum Cowboys with a sharp 9-2 win. Considering the Dragons have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sienna Diaz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Makenzie Calandres was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Paris Alaquinez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Southwest pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11.33 hits in those games compared to only 5.45 in the others. As for McCollum, they moved to 11-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Southwest will be playing in front of their home fans against Medina Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Medina Valley will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Southwest surely won't give up without a fight. As for McCollum, they are taking a road trip to face off against Jay at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. McCollum's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Jay's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
