The Calumet New Tech Warriors''s 9-2 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were dealt a 48-16 loss at the hands of Hanover Central on Friday. Calumet New Tech was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-0.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Javon Lawerence, who picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Leading Hanover Central to victory were Matt Koontz and Caiden Verrett. Koontz threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes, while Verrett rushed for 64 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries.
Calumet New Tech's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-3 Wheeler and 6-4 Gary West Side (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.4% over those games). As for Hanover Central, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Calumet New Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hanover Central will play host again and welcome Boone Grove, where Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Boone Grove will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
