High school football: State by state look at top 100 players from Class of 2023

Cormani McClain, Francis Mauigoa, Brandon Inniss lead 22 players from Florida in 247Sports composite rankings.

The state of Florida has bragging rights when it comes to the top high school football players in the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Twenty-two of the top 100 incoming seniors are from the Sunshine State, headlined by Cormani McClain of Lake Gibson (Lakeland), Francis Mauigoa of IMG Academy (Bradenton) and Brandon Inniss of American Heritage (Plantation). All land in the top 10 overall.

Texas has the second most with 17 players led by David Hicks Jr. of Allen, Anthony Hill Jr. of Ryan (Denton) and Rueben Owens II of El Campo, the 2021 MaxPreps National Junior of the Year.

Alabama (11), Georgia (9), California (7) and Louisiana (6) were the only other states with more than five players.

In total, 27 different states along with Washington, D.C. have at least one player featured.

The wide receiver position has the most included in the top 100 with 16 headlined by Inniss and Zachariah Branch of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas).

Arch Manning of Newman (New Orleans) is the top-rated player overall and one of five signal callers who is a five-star recruit. Malachi Nelson of Los Alamitos (Calif.), Dante Moore of King (Detroit), Nico Iamaleava of Warren (Downey, Calif.) and Jaden Rashada of Pittsburg (Calif.) are the other five-star quarterbacks.

IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) has the most players featured from one school with four followed by Los Alamitos (Calif.) and Central (Phenix City, Ala.) who both have three. Carver (Montgomery, Ala.), Guyer (Denton, Texas), South Oak Cliff (Dallas) and Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) all have two.
