Last Tuesday, Sage Creek was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to Carlsbad. Sage Creek has struggled against Carlsbad recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Sage Creek's defeat came about despite a quality game from Harmony Lawler, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. Lawler is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Addison Femrite was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 73-26 victory over San Dieguito Academy at home. With La Costa Canyon ahead 49-13 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
La Costa Canyon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keira Colestock, who scored 21 points. Colestock is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ali DiBenedetto, who scored 20 points.
Sage Creek has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season. As for La Costa Canyon, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-12.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Sage Creek have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 41.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for La Costa Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 8.3 rebounds per game. Given Sage Creek's sizeable advantage in that area, La Costa Canyon will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sage Creek was dealt a bruising 75-32 loss at the hands of La Costa Canyon when the teams last played on January 9th. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sage Creek was down 38-17.
