Basketball Game Preview: Lawrence Academy Warriors vs. West Craven Eagles

The Lawrence Academy Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the West Craven Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lawrence Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully West Craven likes a good challenge.

Lawrence Academy will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Ridgecroft, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Lawrence Academy made off with a 71-70 win over Ridgecroft.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lawrence Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Hoggard, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, Hoggard is now averaging an impressive 8.3 boards per game. Ben Woodard was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Lawrence Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, West Craven was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. The game between them and SouthWest Edgecombe didn't end well, with West Craven falling 65-50. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while the Cougars are ranked 79th).

Lawrence Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points per game. As for West Craven, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
