Baseball Game Preview: Limestone Rockets vs. Olympia Spartans

The Limestone Rockets will face off against the Olympia Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Limestone's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Olympia has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Limestone is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Illinois Valley Central by a score of 10-6 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Evan Daxenbichler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Daxenbichler was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Nolan Ryan and Hunter Long did most of the damage at the plate: Ryan went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Long went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Ryan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joe Shields, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Olympia nor Eureka made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Spartans fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 5-4.

Limestone's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Olympia, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3-1.

Limestone got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Olympia by a conclusive 17-7 score. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
