Given St. Anthony's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Swordsmen are ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Anthony was led to victory by Ryann Bennett and Melaiah Joseph. Bennett scored 13 points along with six steals, while Joseph scored 21 points. Bennett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anaya Tunu, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
St. Anthony is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for St. Paul, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-17.
St. Anthony will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. Muir is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for St. Paul, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
