Pomona is 2-8 against Edgewood since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Red Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Lions at 3:30 p.m. Pomona will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Pomona is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past La Puente 21-13 on Wednesday. With that win, the Red Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Adrian Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pomona is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-8-1 otherwise. Lopez was even better at the plate, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
Pomona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.
Meanwhile, Edgewood never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Bassett as they made off with a 21-0 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by eight runs or more this season.
Like Pomona, Edgewood also got a great game from a two-way player: Tony Madriz. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Madriz has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Edgewood let Ricky Bocanegra and Omar Chavez run wild. Bocanegra went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Chavez went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Vincent Mancilla, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Edgewood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Pomona, their record is now 6-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pomona has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Edgewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pomona might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Edgewood when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
