The Fairfield Falcons will square off against the Johnson Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Fairfield made easy work of Pinole Valley and carried off a 15-5 win.
Trustin Mitchell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Mitchell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Donavan Luu was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Tristen Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinole Valley only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Johnson hadn't done well against Florin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Thursday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Panthers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Like Fairfield, Johnson also got a great game from a two-way player: Nikko Sical. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Sical is becoming a predictor of Johnson's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 3-1 (and 2-9 when he doesn't). Sical was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tony Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Johnson is 4-2 when Hernandez posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Augustin Corona, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Johnson's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Fairfield, their win bumped their record up to 17-6.
Fairfield took their victory against Johnson in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 22-5 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
