Douglas and Rio Rico are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Douglas has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Wednesday, Douglas needed a bit of extra time to put away Sahuarita. They skirted past the Mustangs 4-3.
Isidro Hoyos was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Hoyos was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.
Hoyos wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jose Ivan Higuera, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Rio Rico's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 8-4 to Mica Mountain.
Jesus Rodriguez was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Rio Rico's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-2 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).
Douglas is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Rico, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Douglas has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Rio Rico struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Douglas skirted past Rio Rico 1-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
