Basketball Game Preview: George Washington Eagles vs. South Philadelphia Rams

George Washington has gone a perfect 3-0 against South Philadelphia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The George Washington Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the South Philadelphia Rams at 3:30 p.m. George Washington will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

George Washington proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 27) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-51 win over Motivation. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since December 9, 2024.

George Washington can attribute much of their success to Elene Gagnidze, who posted 20 points, and Celyne Vah, who scored 18 points. Gagnidze is becoming a predictor of George Washington's success: when she posts at least 15 points the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when she doesn't).

Meanwhile, South Philadelphia blew past Mastery Charter South co-op [Mastery Charter Lenfest/Mastery Charter Thomas], posting a 47-10 win. That looming 47-10 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rams yet this season.

George Washington pushed their record up to 7-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points over those games. As for South Philadelphia, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-5-1.

George Washington didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against South Philadelphia in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, but they still walked away with a 43-37 victory.
