San Marcos is 0-4 against Mater Dei Catholic since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The San Marcos Knights' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, San Marcos had to suffer through a rough 86-18 loss at the hands of Mission Hills. San Marcos has struggled against Mission Hills recently, as their matchup on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Mater Dei Catholic came up short against Bonita Vista on Friday and fell 56-43. While losing is never fun, Mater Dei Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 469th, while Bonita Vista is ranked 148th).
Mater Dei Catholic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Promise Martin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Otilia Sua who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Martin hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games.
San Marcos has not been sharp recently as the team has lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-17 record this season. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.
San Marcos ended up a good deal behind Mater Dei Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 56-37. Can San Marcos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
