Hughson had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Wheatland Pirates on Monday as they made off with an 8-2 victory. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.

Bryce McDaniel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carlos Guizar, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Beau Blake, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

The win was the fourth in a row for Hughson, bringing their record up to 26-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Wheatland, they moved to 17-9-1 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Hughson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
