Northgate is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Bishop O'Dowd with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Broncos have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Northgate got a great performance from Max Carlos as he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Carlos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Christopher Flores was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Dress, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Piedmont, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Archie Williams 7-6.
George Bishop tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Diego Delventhal, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jordan Vo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Northgate pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Piedmont, their record is now 16-9.
Piedmont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northgate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322.
