Westmoor is 8-2 against Jefferson since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Westmoor Rams' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Jefferson Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Jefferson took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Westmoor, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Westmoor earned a 46-35 win over Capuchino. Given Westmoor's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while Capuchino is ranked 1006th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Jefferson came up short against El Camino on Tuesday and fell 59-46. Jefferson has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Jefferson saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Erin Panaligan, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. That's the first time this season that Panaligan pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grace Wang, who scored ten points along with five assists and two steals.
Westmoor is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Westmoor beat Jefferson 40-33 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Jefferson's Lupe Etene-Faamoe, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Westmoor to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
