The Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Hawks will face off against the Hammond Central Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Hammond Academy of Science & Tech will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Lake Station Edison on Thursday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Fighting Eagles with a sharp 12-2 victory.
Austin McKimmy and Boudi Sullivan were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, McKimmy tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Meanwhile, Sullivan pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, McKimmy got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, while Sullivan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Noah Michniewicz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anthony Concepcion, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Hammond Academy of Science & Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Station Edison only posted an OBP of .217.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hammond Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over East Chicago Central on Thursday. The Wolves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Juan Magallanes made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Magallanes was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jansel Savinon, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Elijah Lewis was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
The win got Hammond Central back to even at 2-2-1. As for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
