The Kennedy Thunderbirds will face off against the Chavez Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kennedy will be strutting in after a win while Chavez will be coming in after a defeat.
Chavez will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Kennedy extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Thunderbirds came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Legacy Christian Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunderbirds have posted since March 1st.
Kennedy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Palomo, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Chavez unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against Wasco, falling 10-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Titans have suffered since April 3rd.
Julian Villarreal was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in April.
At the plate, Jacob Sixtos was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Benji Perez, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Kennedy's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Chavez, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kennedy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Chavez struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kennedy came up short against Chavez in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
