Basketball Recap: Lennox Academy Takes a Loss

Lennox Academy scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 37-16 to the Hawthorne Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 42-14 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hawthorne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kennesha Sylvester, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sylvester has scored at least a third of the Cougars' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Prevailer Umejesi, who put up 13 points and six boards.

Lennox Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Hawthorne, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Coming up, Lennox Academy will take on California Academy of Math & Science at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hawthorne, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Saddleback at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Cougars 28.8, the Roadrunners 24.9) so any points scored will be well earned.
