After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Decatur Central, Martinsville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 42-41 victory over the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs. The win continues a trend for the Artesians in their matchups with the Grizzly Cubs: they've now won five in a row.
Chase Davis was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Those three passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.
Martinsville didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Franklin Community to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Grady Gardner and Gamble Pieper, who each logged one passes deflected. Martinsville wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 69%.
