Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Independence

Independence had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the North Panola Cougars a 13-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 20-3 last Tuesday.

Gavin Pierce and Dallas Stepp did most of the damage at the plate: Pierce scored three runs and stole two bases, while Stepp scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. What's more, Stepp posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was DJ Mitchell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory got Independence back to even at 7-7. As for North Panola, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Independence will face off against West Memphis Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Independence's pitchers better be ready for this one: West Memphis Christian has averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for North Panola, a feisty cat fight will be fought as North Panola Cougars face off against Rosa Fort Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
