Even though the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots scored an imposing 59 points on Friday, the Poway Titans still came out on top. Poway snuck past Academy of Our Lady of Peace with a 63-59 victory. Given Poway's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Academy of Our Lady of Peace is ranked 539th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Poway's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katelyn Johnson, who scored 20 points. Johnson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Parsons, who scored 17 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Poway and bumps their season record up to 5-2. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poway will take on Mt. Carmel at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mt. Carmel is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hoover at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
